You know, there’s really only one man who can lift my spirits after a long hard day, make me laugh even when I don’t feel like laughing, make me sing for no reason, reduce me to tears in the most beautiful way and help look at life in a whole new light. You may think I’m talking about my husband….but I’m not (but you’re great, honey, really!). That man is none other than my beloved W.A. Mozart. Of course I kid- obviously my sweet hubby does all those things for me as well, but this post isn’t about him…it’s about Mozart! And Bake It Pretty, but I haven’t gotten there yet! 😉
Today is Mozart’s 255th birthday, and I just couldn’t let the day go by without honoring him on my blog (and facebook page…and twitter…). It’s tradition for me to throw him a big ‘ol birthday party every year, music nerd-style. I go all out – cake, music and the movie Amadeus. Sure, it’s pretty much a fabricated “enhancement” of Mozart’s life and career, but hey, it’s worth it for the soundtrack alone, plus I like to hear Tom Hulce’s silly “Mozart laugh”.
I always like to host a little giveaway on Mozart’s birthday – last year, if you’ll remember, it was the box of Mozart chocolates from Austria. However, Izzy managed to snag the box off the table, unwrap the plastic, tear into the box and eat all but 4. *sigh* So this year, I decided to do a non-perishable (and non-doggie-attracting) giveaway; a $20 gift card to Bake It Pretty! I seriously love this site- I spend hours just perusing the cupcake liners and sprinkles! They have everything you could ever want to fit your baking needs! My personal favorites are these “pretty in plaid” cupcake liners I just bought, pink pearlized chunky crystal sugar, and lilac shimmery sugar pearls…to name a FEW. I could seriously spend a fortune there! And one lucky winner will have 20 bucks to go wild with! Woo!

I would ask Mozart what he thinks of the evolution of music since he was around and how he thinks it has impacted society (or whether music was impacted society!).

Not a question, and I certainly have no need of any baking stuff myself, but I would just comment that young Mr. Mozart would be TOTALLY at home in the 80’s/90’s composing metal music. Just listen to “Dies Irae” and you know what I’m talking about.

I am always amazed at how his passion drove him, even when poor and facing debt,he strived to do better and follow his dreams of doing what he wanted..amazing…so I guess my question would be …

As neat as it would be to get Mozart’s take on modern composer (and/or pop music! LOL!) I think I would like to talk in depth about what it was like to play for royalty. I’m a huge European history buff, and hearing his firsthand account of playing for kings and queens would be so awesome!

I’d be interested to know his least favorite composition was. You know there had to be at least one he was writing where he was going “Man, I suck at this. I should give up”. We all have those moments.

Mozart’s b-day is a great day to celebrate! The typical question would probably be about his inspiration, but he probably gets that all the time. Instead, I’d ask him if he likes his name “Wolfgang Amadeus” and if he ever got teased as a child. A little personal insight is fascinating!

I would ask Mozart if he had any clue about how widespread or influential his music would become, or if he just thought his pieces would come and go.
I’m always curious about how artists think about themselves. It speaks volumes about what kind of person they are.

The question I would ask Mozart is “While writing a piece of music on paper do you write it by notes or by sounds”. I wonder what his childhood was like that gave him such inspiration. He was such a wonderful artist, a genius for sure.

Happy Birthday Mozart! Thank goodness for Mozart..when my daughter was a baby she had a difficult time with colic. She listened to hours of Mozart while in her swing…we loved his Concerto #9…. a lively piece. If I could ask Mozart a question I would ask him where he drew his inspiration from….and then I’d ask him to play for us..lol! I love you site…now a follower. Very cool! Thanks
