HAPPY EASTER!!! Those of you who celebrate are probably spending today getting those eggs ready to dye, making pies (or as my mom usually does- making a ginormous banana pudding), getting cute little Easter dresses ready for church tomorrow morning, and maybe even sitting down with your kids, explaining what this holiday really means and why we celebrate. Easter is such a wonderful holiday and Joel and I really love it! Every year we dye eggs (yes, apparently we’re still 10 years old…) and watch The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston. Tomorrow we’re heading to my parents’ house, so I’m spending today making fresh strawberry pies and….BUNNY BAIT! What’s bunny bait, you ask? It’s basically just popcorn tossed with vanilla candy coating, Easter M&Ms and pretzels, but I’d like to think the Easter Bunny is out there just counting the minutes until he can hop over to our house and snatch a paw full! 🙂

Parents, this is something the kids would absolutely love! It’s super easy and quick to make (not to mention totally and completely addictive!!!), and the kids could help by breaking the pretzels into pieces and stirring the M&Ms in. I think someday when we have kids of our own, we’ll definitely make this a tradition in our house.

I hope whatever your plans are, that you all have a wonderful and happy Easter with your friends and family!

Bunny Bait

1 bag popcorn, popped (I used Tender White)
6 oz. white chocolate candy coating
1 bag Easter M&Ms
pretzel sticks, broken into small pieces
colorful sprinkles, if desired

Place the popped popcorn in a large bowl with the broken up pretzels and M&Ms. Heat the candy coating in the microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring after each time, until melted and smooth.

Drizzle the candy coating over the popcorn mixture and stir to coat. The pretzels and M&Ms will sink to the bottom, so make sure to get those stirred in and coated with the rest of the popcorn.

Spread out on a large piece of wax paper, top with a few sprinkles (if desired) and let cool. Break into pieces and serve in a large bowl.

  7. Is this one microwave bag of popcorn or a regular bag (how many oz?) of popcorn kernels? How much in pretzel sticks approximately? I love this idea for holiday treats for school using a festive plastic holiday bag and twistie!

One microwave bag. I’m not sure how many pretzels (that was a long time ago), but probably around 3/4 to 1 cup. I just threw in the amount that I wanted. It can be as much or as little as you want.

  10. I made this for Valentines day but without the pretzels. The only problem I had is it wasn’t as colorful as yours. The white chocolate covered my m & m’s so you could barely see the colors. Not sure what I did wrong.

  11. i bet if you added food coloring green (st.patricks day) red & blue ( 4th of july) orange( halloween) or pink for valentines day. you could use this recipe year round. cant wait to try it out

Just FYI – never add the liquid food coloring to almond bark. I’ve done that before and ruined it – it turns into a paste. I think they suggest using powdered form of food coloring. Just in case you didn’t already know!

  12. I am going to do this! We make a Christmas one with crushed candy canes. Our recipe has only 2 oz candy coating and is still good….may help the colors come thru (for the person asking about that).

  34. I am currently giving this recipe a try. Everything is easy except for the melting the candy coating in the microwave. It doesn’t seem like I can get the coating the right consistency to where it would drizzle over the mixture. It seems to be taking longer than I expected so I have decided to do the double boiler method over the stove. I would suggest that the recipe note that the double boiler method can be used instead of the microwave.

  37. I just made several batches of this using Wilton pink vanilla candy coating. It came out great! I’m using it as a treat for my son’s class Easter party.

I melted it in a pyrex measuring cup in the microwave and it melted perfectly fine. Using real chips (not candy coating) may make it more difficult to melt, but if you follow the recipe, it should be fine.

Thank your for sharing!!! I’m going to publish my success on my blog.
