There are 2 kinds of people who will read this blog post: those who know what Raising Cane’s is, and those who don’t. If you are lucky enough to be familiar with it, you’ll know Raising Canes (or Layne’s for you loyalist Aggies out there- myself included) is a fast food restaurant that serves nothing but chicken fingers and fries.

And an awesome, awesome dipping sauce.

As far as I know, it’s mostly us Southern (and a few Midwestern) states that have Cane’s restaurants, but it looks like they’ll be expanding all over before too long. Then it’ll be Cane’s for all! Yippee!

If you know Cane’s sauce, this post will having you jumping for joy. If you don’t, all you need to know is that it’s the best thing to happen to chicken since….well, frying, I guess. It’s mayonnaise-based with a tangy, spicy kick. IT’S AWESOME. Just make it, and try it.

Raising Cane’s Dipping Sauce

1/2 cup mayonnaise (not miracle whip!)
1/4 cup ketchup
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
1/8 teaspoon (just a splash) white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Mix all ingredients and chill until ready to serve. Serve with chicken strips or nuggets (fries are also great dipped in it!). Serves 2-4.

  1. There is a special place in my heart (stomach?) for Layne’s. Cane’s is a good substitute …but I always feel like I’m cheating.

    I know. We’re the same way! I’ll always be a Layne’s girl!

I too love layne’s. its important to note that Raising Cane’s was not a spin off of Layne’s in CS. Cane’s started in Louisiana next to LSU.

  3. We just got two restaurants here. After seeing this sauce, I may have to go in for a try. Or not…your homemade version is certainly better.

  4. I don’t live anywhere near America and I knew nothing of this restaurant before seeing your post. It’s probably lucky that in terms of fried chicken I have only a few, dubious KFCs to choose from – I would otherwise be the size of a house. Home-made therefore, is the best way for me to go and next time I’ll try this sauce. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy your fried chicken food porn, miniature as it may be ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. omg. I love you. I moved back home to Cleveland where there are no Raising Cane’s anywhere ๐Ÿ™ In Columbus, I would go there once a month at least! I even emailed the company and told them establishing a location in the Cleveland area would be a great idea, lol!

  8. Hi Amy,

I just found about your site from Steph at Plain Chicken and I love your recipes. Your little dog is adorable. We have 5 dogs (all rescues)ourselves. Could you consider putting a save the recipe feature on your site so we can save your recipes to the ziplist recipe box? It saves on printer paper and is so convenient.

I live in Indianapolis and we do not have the Raising Cane’s restaurant-I wish we did, but I will enjoy your version of the recipes.

Thank you, Pamela! We adore our sweet Izzy girl and are considering adopting another!

I will have my tech support (aka: hubby) take a look at that for me- I probably need to get with the times and update a few things! Thank you for the suggestion!

  11. I don’t have garlic salt. Would garlic powder work if I added salt too?

    [Reply]

    amy Reply:

Sure! But I would hold off on the salt until you taste it. It may not even need it.

  17. Thank you! My husband is in the military so we move a lot. We recently moved from Louisiana where our family LOVED going to Canes. We now live in Indiana and have yet to see one here so I can promise I will be making your version of the “secret” sauce! Yeah! I know what we are having for dinner tonight!

  18. We just tried making this and I think its missing something. Every time we go to Cane’s I could swear I taste season salt (my mom put it on everything she made when I was growing up), and all the homemade ones we have tried we have used seasoned salt and it comes closer than what I think this recipe does. Maybe I am missing something.
